Literature Circles Reading Response Questions

Reading Response Questions A:
  • Copy down a quote from a character and explain why you think it's meaningful. What does it suggest about this character's personality? Personal qualities? Etc. Explain your thinking.
"Excuse me...I have to get home and, I feel so stupid, but some how I lost my money for the subway...it must have fallen out of my pocket ..and I was wondering if maybe you could spare some change...I don't need much."

I think this quote is meaningful because it shows that every day that Dana wakes up she has to be brave and fight for food begging for money.
It shows that every moment she could be caught for solicitation of a minor.  If Dana got caught she would be sent home, and have to face her father. Dana is still a young girl approaching 15 but in the short weeks she has lived on the street she had to grow up really fast.

What were your feelings and first impressions after reading the opening chapters of this book? Explain

As I begun the book I could tell it was going to be an enthralling book, the characters were lively and intriguing my first impression of the main character however was that the girl is really messed up, but as I got to know Dana I realized she is a nice and caring artistic girl.  I am really glad Ms.Crosbie chose this particular book for me to read.
